| Kingsley Elementary - Waterloo, Iowa
Kingsley Elementary School, located in a elegant, tree lined, well established neighborhood on Prospect Boulevard in Waterloo, was first slated to be torn down to make room for the new elementary school. After much deliberation, it was decided to keep the existing structure and reconstruct the interior of the building. The facility utilizes three levels for student instruction while the existing attic space is consumed by the mechanical equipment. Gilmor & Doyle was called upon to completely redesign the mechanical, electrical, and telecommunication systems. The plentiful aquifer in the Cedar Valley allowed the use of an energy efficient open loop geothermal system for heating and cooling. The new mechanical, electrical and telecommunication systems gives the school the classic look of a historical building with the latest era in technology. |
